The Marion County Solid Waste Authority (MCSWA) serves the county by processing recycling and monitoring litter. An important part of MCSWA’s work is education for the community regarding recycling and domestic hazardous waste disposal procedures. We respond to phone calls and emails asking a variety of recycling questions from the community. MCSWA does not accept hazardous waste but offers handling and disposal instructions. Since 2016, Tony Golden has directed the MCSWA. He is a veteran with decades of supervisory experience who attended local universities.

Where is the landfill/city dump? What are their hours and what do they take?
Neither Marion County nor the City of Fairmont own/operate a landfill/dump.What is available are transfer stations in surrounding counties. The transfer stations accepts trash/garbage and bulky goods and then transport them to active landfills in other counties. All WV transfer stations are open to all WV residents with proof of residency (a WV drivers license or utility bill addressed to you). Following are the nearest transfer stations to Marion County:

Important: All open vehicles transporting solid waste MUST be covered with a tarp, or secured in another manner, from the point of origin to point of destination or delivery at the Transfer Station. Uncovered loads will not be admitted. Transporting unsecured, uncovered solid waste in an open vehicle without a tarp is a violation of W. Va. Code §17C-17-6(a&b) and is punishable by fines.
